@Vasco: I’m just worried about how people are adopting SCRUM. I’m worried about the ignorant consultants as you describe in your post http://softwaredevelopmenttoday.blogspot.com/2008/11/beware-of-ignorant-consultants-beware.html

In addition, most people in our organizations are used to follow some kind of methodology or process where if they have a problem they can refer to the page xx of the process YYY description. And voilá! The solution for their problems it’s all there, they just have to apply it. SCRUM it’s not like that!

Before jump into SCRUM I think it’s useful for organizations to understand its history and the history of their own company, as well their culture, systems, capabilities, procedures, etc. SCRUM will not work if you go next Monday to work and tell your team: Let’s SCRUM.

It’s important to know our problems and the root causes of those problems, and if SCRUM can be applied to fix the root causes, great, if don’t, don’t waste time and money.

I also believe that Agile can be successfully used in Portugal, and I’m keen to help.

BTW, I’m not a CSM (probably that’s why I wrote this post )

@Paulo: You’re right. We face a culture shock when adopting Agile. For my own situation, we are bringing the SCRUM mindset from Finland. Will it work without adaptations to our own culture? Here, yes I’m skeptical.

Thanks for the comments.

Good points, but don't despair yet. There's a lot of value in just applying SCRUM as it is described and learning from it. I know, I was a skeptic when I started :)

Check out some of my posts about scrum for more info. I've also started collecting "patterns" and "anti-patterns" of Agile deployment check it out.

It would be great to help SCRUM succeed also in Portugal :)

BTW: who was your trainer for the CSM?

I loved the garbage thing!

Scrum is hard, but harder in our country. Agility is discipline, commitment, precise reporting ... when you pick a Portuguese team and the team realises how velocity shows the non working time versus working time, you will experience a new level of resistance :)

Welcome to "agile" world!
